Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant/Analyst performs complex work of considerable difficulty in nonprofit accounting and financial analysis.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Prepares complex analyses by gathering financial data from various sources.
- Develops financial forecasts and assists with the budgeting process, including analyzing budget requests and conducting cost analyses.
- Tracks revenue and spending for all ancillary services and works with clinical leaders to identify opportunities.
- Prepares complex balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
- Analyzes accounts receivable for varied service lines.
- Reviews service line budgets and volume reports for spending trends, referral trends, opportunities for cost savings, strategic sourcing, and related financial management improvements.
- Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
- Prepares various reports for internal and external users.
- Assists heavily with the external audit.
- Assists in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
- Keeps abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes and best practices in healthcare finance.
- Goals are general communicated in “solution” or project goal terms.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, required.
- CPA license or Masters of Accountancy, preferred.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- 5+ years accounting/finance experience.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with Oracle or other similar accounting software.
- Not-for profit and health industry experience a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience working with complex spreadsheets and pivot tables.
- Strong analytical and accounting skills.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies.
