This event provides a forum for accounting educators at Arkansas’ two and four-year colleges and universities to meet with their peers to hear discussion on current topics, trends, and teaching strategies, and to share ideas and concerns. <o:p>

Leaders

Tim Montgomery

Tim joined the Arkansas State Board of Public Accountancy as an investigator in 2013. He graduated from the University of Houston -- Downtown with a BBA in Accounting in 1992 and passed the CPA exam in 1993. Throughout his career, Tim has been the Internal Auditor for US Able Life in Little Rock, Accounting Manager for Airborne Nacelle Services in Hot Springs, Comptroller for a supply company in Pencil Bluff, an Internal Audit and SOX Compliance Consultant, and the Internal Audit Director for Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He lives in Cabot, AR with his wife Charlotte. They have four children (ages 28, 26, 22, and 12), three daughters-in-law, and two perfect grandsons.

Hillary Looney

Hillary graduated from Hendrix College in 1996 with a BA in Accounting. She returned later for a Master of Arts in Accounting in 2003. Hillary received her CPA license in 2005. For the next ten years, she worked in public accounting, higher education administration, and general corporate accounting. In 2015, Hillary returned yet again to Hendrix as an Assistant Professor of Economics & Business. When not grading papers and molding young minds, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and dog, Sister.

Gina Bergfeld

Gina graduated from Hendrix College with a B.A in Accounting in 2003 followed by a Masters of Accounting in 2004. She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Arkansas since 2006. Prior to teaching, she spent her career in the public accounting, general corporate accounting, and internal auditing sectors. Gina is an Associate Professor in the Economics and Business Department at Hendrix College, specializing in financial accounting and auditing. Outside of teaching she enjoys playing and watching sports, especially tennis and basketball, and spending time with her family.

Stephanie Watson

Stephanie F. Watson, Ph.D., CPA, has been on the faculty of the University of Central Arkansas Accounting Department since 2003. She currently serves as the department's chairperson. Stephanie has taught Accounting Information Systems, Cost Accounting, Principles of Accounting, and Accounting Case Studies. Stephanie is also involved in Curriculum and Assessment, has co-authored a textbook, and has been published in the Journal of Accounting Education, The CPA Journal, and Oil, Gas, and Energy Quarterly, among others. Stephanie has been honored with the Arkansas Society of CPA's Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education, Outstanding Beta Alpha Psi Advisor, and service and teaching awards from UCA's College of Business. She received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D., all in accounting from Louisiana State University. Prior to graduate school, Stephanie worked in corporate accounting for seven years.

Thomas Hayes

Dr. Hayes is a clinical associate professor of accounting at the University of Arkansas. He currently teaches auditing, advanced accounting, and principles of accounting. He received his bachelor's degree from Westminster College (MO), his master's from the University of Missouri, and his doctorate from the University of North Texas. His primary research interests are in the auditing and accounting education areas. He is also a CPA in Oklahoma.

Joseph Maslott

Joseph Maslott, CPA, is the Associate Director – Content Management with the AICPA Examinations team since 2006. Mr. Maslott has over 20 years of accounting experience and began his career at PwC. He then joined AT&T World Headquarters and E*TRADE Financial in management positions in accounting. As a lead CPA on the AICPA Examinations team, he has served in various roles including Staff Liaison for the AUD subcommittee and business owner of Simulation Development for all sections of the Exam. Currently, Mr. Maslott is the staff lead of the CPA Evolution practice analysis, a research project designed to document the scope of entry-level practice as well as serve as the foundation for the Exam's validity and legal defensibility.

Barry Bryan

Dr. Barry Bryan, CPA - New York, is the Nolan E. Williams Teaching Professor of Accounting in the William Dillard Department of Accounting at the University of Arkansas. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Audit and Assurance Services and Auditing Standards, as well as serving as the director of the Accounting Internship Program and as the department's CPA Exam Advisor. He received his BSBA and MBA degrees from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. His research on auditing, peer review, quality control, and accounting education has been published in various academic and professional journals.

He is a consultant for KPMG Business School and has delivered assurance training courses for PwC, the Audit & Attestation course for Gleim CPA Review, and continuing education programs for both regional and local accounting firms as well as various state professional societies.

In over thirty years as an educator, he has established a record of outstanding teaching and service to the accounting profession.

Professionally, Dr. Bryan is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of CPAs, the Arkansas Society of CPAs, and the Northwest Chapter of the Arkansas Society of CPAs. In the Fayetteville community, he is a member of the Walton Arts Council where he serves on the Finance Committee. He is also a Trustee for the Fayetteville Public Library and an active member of Central United Methodist Church.

He joined the faculty of his alma mater in 2020.

Curtis Atchley

Dr. Curtis W. Atchley has spent nearly 40 years in the accounting industry working both in the business sector and in academia. He spent nearly 15 years working as a controller in both the merchandising and services industries before transitioning into academia where he accepted an assistant professor position at Tarleton State University’s outreach campus in Waco, TX. Dr. Atchley worked at Tarleton State University for 13 years primarily serving in the role of program coordinator for both the undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting at the Waco campus. In 2022, Dr. Atchley moved to St. Joseph, MO in order to be closer to family, and assumed an assistant professor of accounting position at Missouri Western State University (MWSU). He was at MWSU for a year before accepting his current role in August of 2023 of assistant professor of accounting at University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Dr. Atchley earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a specialization in Advanced Accounting from Northcentral University in 2018, a Masters of Accounting from Tabor College in 2003, and a BS in Business Management from Friends University in 1999. Dr. Atchley also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1991 to 1999. During his enlistment he was attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) serving in Iraq and Kuwait during Desert Storm and Somalia during Operating Restore Hope. Dr. Atchley was also the first Marine to serve at a base in Germany where he worked for the National Security Agency (NSA).
