Turning the Tables: Interview the Interviewer

Source: Suggested questions provided by The Personnel Consulting Group, www.personnel-group.com

While it is important for employers to interview candidates to see if they are right for the job, it is equally important to make sure the job is a good fit for you.  The inevitable interview question, “do you have any questions for me” is your opportunity to not only look interested and focused on the prospective job, but also to find out if this job is the right job for you.

Here are some suggested ways to phrase those important questions in order to get the answers you need to make an informed career choice:

·          Why is this position open?

·          Why did the person who held this position most recently leave?

·          In what ways were you most pleased with what he/she did?

·          Where was the greatest room for improvement?

·          What are some of the more difficult problems that one would have to face in this position?  How do you think these could be handled best?

·          What are the objectives that you would like accomplished on this job?

·          What is most pressing?  What would you like to have done in the next two to three months?

·          What are some of the longer-termed objectives?

·          How would you describe your management style?

What significant changes do you foresee for the company/organization in the near future?
