Arkansas Society of CPAs Joins the AICPA’s CITP Challenge

IT-interested Members to Benefit

In conjunction with the AICPA and other state societies, the Arkansas Society of CPAs has committed our support of the AICPA’s on-going efforts to raise awareness and recognition of the Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) credential by participating in the 2008 CITP Challenge.

Given the continuing and growing level of importance of IT expertise to today’s businesses and to each individual, this opportunity will give us the structure to strongly support and encourage our CPA-members who have an expertise in IT to become credentialed and to form an IT-related networking community to benefit our state society.

Arkansas Society of CPAs members who are not members of the AICPA’s IT community but who are interested in staying informed on IT-related issues impacting the CPA-community will benefit by receiving AICPA 2008 Top Technologies Initiative content that we will have access to as a participant in the CITP Challenge. This includes an early release of the 2008 list and an invitation to the Top Technologies web seminar.

As an added bonus, all of our members who apply for their CITP credential through July 31, 2008 receive $200 off the program enrollment fee of $550.  Those who apply by April 30 will be entered into a raffle for free admission to AICPA’s Tech 2008 conference (an over $800 value).  If our state society wins, we’ll be sending state representatives to Tech 2008 to receive the 2008 CITP Challenge Award.

The CITP Credential

The CITP credential is only available to individual CPAs who are able to demonstrate an expertise in information technology (IT) through their knowledge, education and experience.

Currently, there are 5 CPAs in OUR STATE who now hold the CITP credential.  OUR STATES’s CITPs seem to be in agreement that this credential is important for any CPA who is involved in providing technology services.

To be eligible for the CITP credential, CPAs must become a member of the AICPA, have a valid state-issued CPA certificate, and agree to comply with the CITP recertification requirements.  The application process consists of completing a CITP Credential application that awards points in three areas:   IT certifications, Business Experience and Lifelong Learning.  The application is then reviewed and processed by the AICPA. CPAs that earn a score of at least 100 points and meet the qualifications are awarded the CITP credential by the AICPA. (Please note: CPAs who hold ISACA’s Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) credential are automatically awarded 100 points.)

In addition to the benefit of having a special designation and standing out from their peers, CITPs are part of an elite national community of IT professionals and receive valuable benefits, including free AICPA IT Section membership (a $200 value), a $125 discount off the AICPA’s annual TECH conference admission, monthly webinars, member forums, and access to tools that will guide you in promoting your certification.
