Arkansas Society of CPAs and AICPA Support New Professionals

Starting out in the CPA profession is no easy task. The learning curve is steep, the hours long and the demands in this post Sarbanes-Oxley environment seem to increase daily. It’s no surprise that many young CPAs feel overwhelmed and are unsure of where to turn for guidance.

Arkansas Society of CPAs has many resources available to help address these concerns and to support the changing needs of the future leaders of the profession.

The AICPA is also addressing the needs of young CPAs. After conducting two research studies focused on the support that young CPAs want from their professional associations, the Institute launched a Young CPA Network. The Network is intended to meet the specific needs of young professionals. As components of the Network, a new Web site and e-newsletter also have been launched to provide resources to this important member segment.

The Web site, www.aicpa.org/YoungCPANetwork offers tools and guidance to help young CPAs map out their skill development needs and obtain networking and work/life balance advice. Another component is a feature that allows young professionals to ask seasoned CPAs career-related questions. In a recent survey of young CPAs, the AICPA found that 77% of respondents found value in having access to an anonymous service of this kind. CPA volunteers are answering the questions and responding directly to the inquiries. Other offerings of the network include CPE information, volunteer opportunities and an overview of professional issues.

The Edge, a new monthly e-newsletter for young CPAs provides updates on professional issues, insight into career development and professional growth ideas, as well as work/life balance guidance.
